Gap Filling

Gap filling is an essential procedure that addresses the natural movement of wooden floors over time.

Due to the properties of wood, most floors will contract and expand with fluctuations in temperature and humidity, causing gaps to form.

Understanding Gap Filling

Here at Kent Wood Flooring, we recognize that every wooden floor is unique, which is why we employ various methods for gap filling tailored to the specific species of wood, installation technique, and location of the floor.

Our Gap Filling Solution

One of our most popular and effective gap-filling methods is resin mixed with sawdust. This solution combines strong, clear resin with the sawdust collected during the sanding process, resulting in a thick putty that perfectly matches the color of your floor. We apply this compound using specialized tools to fill the gaps between the boards efficiently.

Advantages of Our Approach:

  • Eco-Friendly: This method utilizes recycled materials from your floorboards, making it a sustainable choice.
  • Cost-Effective: Our resin and sawdust mixture is an economically sound solution that provides good results without breaking the bank.

We typically use this gap-filling process for parquet flooring and on floors where the boards are within 5mm of each other.

It is essential to note, however, that while this method improves the aesthetic of your floor, it does not prevent natural movement.

Important Considerations

It’s crucial to understand that wooden floors will continue to move over time, and as a result, the resin fillers can eventually break down. The nature of sanding machines, which can pull on the wood, may also remove portions of the filler, making it impossible to achieve a permanent fix.

While our gap-filling solutions effectively address current gaps, they will not completely eliminate the space created by the floor’s movement, nor can we provide a definitive timeframe for how long the fillers will last. The longevity of the fillers varies based on multiple factors, including the type of wood, how it was installed, and the level of foot traffic the floor endures.

We offer a variety of other gap-filling options as well, and we encourage you to discuss your specific needs with us. Our team is always ready to recommend the highest-grade resin fillers and top-quality products that suit your unique flooring requirements.

At Kent Wood Flooring, we are committed to providing solutions that enhance the beauty and functionality of your wooden floors. If you have any questions about our gap filling services or would like to explore additional options, please contact us today!
