Frequently asked questions

We believe we are different to most people’s opinions of tradesmen. We CARE. We uphold high standards of professionalism, tidiness, politeness and accountability.

We are honest (sometimes too much!) about the work we complete, and given that most of our work comes from recommendations, we like to think we are doing something right!

At Kent Wood Flooring, quality is not just a promise; it’s our way of life. We believe in delivering nothing short of excellence.

Any questions you have please just give us a call or an email and we will be happy to help!

The cost is more expensive than my local builder/tradesmen, why is that?

To be blunt (that honesty thing again!) builders/tradesmen/DIYers are just that, they do all trades and most likely do most well. Our staff, however, are time-served craftsmen. They live and breathe nothing but wood floors day in/day out. Their level of skill and knowledge in relation to wooden floors will exceed that of a general “do it all” tradesman.

As wood is a natural product, it can go drastically wrong if installed or treated incorrectly, so when analysing your other quotes, always make sure that the costs provided are “like for like” and cover everything. We will always try to list every eventuality of what may be needed even if we can’t provided you with specific amounts until the job is started (e.g how many bags of latex needed) we will give you the cost of the item and make you aware that the charge will be included at the end. In our experience some quotes do not include the potential sub floor preparation costs and only highlight them and start adding costs once already on site completing the work so what may have looked like a cheaper quote suddenly increases.

Is Wooden flooring suitable for underfloor heating?

Yes, but the product must be engineered wood flooring. The thickness of the floor will depend upon the system being installed so if you need any advice please feel free to ask.

Is there much mess with sanding?

We use 95% dust free machines with the bulk of the mess being sucked into an extractor. That being said, there WILL be a small film of dust that will settle on your surfaces. With furniture out the room there hopefully shouldn’t be too much cleaning up to be done but if you really don’t fancy doing it then we do have contacts with a cleaning company that we could get a quote for to have it all sorted for you!

Do you undertake Insurance work?

We have a wealth of experience working with customers going through insurance claims and understand it can be a lengthy process. We are always happy to offer assistance to ensure our customers receive the full scope of what they are entitled to and are happy to write up reports to support. This however does take up the companies time and therefore additional costs for us. Should a report be required there will often be a small fee to cover our time which would be deductible off the price of the works completed.  Please ask for our “Insurance information” document for further information.

I’ve seen floors fade and change over time. How can I prevent this?

Being a natural product, Wood Floors change in colour and appearance over time and for various reasons. Things such as sunlight and incorrect cleaning and maintenance can all affect the visual appearance of a wood floor. To minimise these change’s you should follow the cleaning and maintenance advice provided and regularly uplift rugs or door mats for a few days to allow the floor to naturally develop.

Is everything included in the price?

For sanding works everything as discussed and written on the quote will be included in the price. Should you decide to have additional filling or staining etc then this would be an additional cost.

For supply and/or installation works the quote should detail all works to be undertaken and all costs. There are times where we cannot fully assess the subfloor and the preparation work required to it so in those instance’s we will detail the cost on the quote but the amount will be placed at zero until after the job when we know how much material/labour cost was required. We will always try to ensure you are aware when extra costs may be required.

You will likely be required to carry out touch ups to skirting boards upon completion.

Do you provide a warranty?

Yes we do, we provide a 1 year fitting warranty and a 2 year finish warranty on our floors subject to our Terms and Conditions.

Can you offer a supply only service?

Yes, we can simply supply the floor if that is all that is required. We also have our sister company ROH Flooring Studio that provides a supply only service of some well known brands.

What is your availability?

We generally operate on a 6 week turnaround however often things happen and some people reschedule so earlier places do pop up.

I can’t decide what finish to get on my sanded floors?

There isn’t a simple 1 answer fits all for this. Each option comes with benefits and negatives and some will fit some households than others. We recommended having a read through our “oil or lacquer” page on our website for more detailed information.
